The Invisible Affection

The red string theory, rooted in an Asian tale, symbolizes an invisible connection between two people destined to meet. This connection influences their lives and relationships in ways they may not fully comprehend. I believe that words hold similar significance. When we engage in conversation, we may not recognize the profound impact our words can have on others. Those words can linger in their minds indefinitely, especially if they struggle to let them go.

To express this concept, I have created two giant white mouths positioned in a room, connected by red strings representing invisible affection. The message behind this artwork serves as a reminder to think and speak carefully when expressing our opinions, because our words, whether intentional or unintentional, can deeply hurt or inspire someone.

One mouth symbolizes the harmful and hurtful words that people often endure, while the other represents beautiful and positive words. In addition, I have been collecting stories from people around me and from my own experiences over the years. those who have experienced hurtful remarks and those who have been inspired by positive ones, so others can hear them.

Writing these words on the sculptures has deepened my understanding of my experiences, allowing me to empathize with myself and helping me heal. I hope my stories also inspire others to be better. The writing in gold represents the painful or beautiful truths we sometimes need to hear in order to grow and change; it is one of the most valuable lessons we may not yet realize.
